September in Vermont

As I frequently play host to company from out of state, I'm always on the hunt for a new 'hidden treasure' to show off the beauty of Vermont. A few days ago I rediscovered the absolute serenity of Mirror Lake. This little gem is so quiet and peaceful and unbelievably clear. We took our dogs on a lovely walk on a dirt road that surrounds the lake and even enjoyed the sounds of a waterfall. Not far away we discovered Sodom Pond in Adamant--another unbelievably quiet escape--and strolled down an almost deserted dirt road. And since dog walking was bringing us such beautiful sights I took a drive to Websterville to walk around the quarry on some of the Millstone Trails. We walked about two easy miles and although we briefly encountered a group of bicyclists, it was like we were in our own private forest. And the leaves are starting to turn...wow!  Best of all, each of these sojourns were within a very easy (20 minutes') drive from Montpelier.

Ahhhhh, I love showing off this state!
